‘Still a slight risk of critical deformation’- Noctua isn’t happy with its next-gen 140mm fan so it’s pushed until Q2 2024 at the earliest-

You’re going to have to wait a little longer for Noctua’s next-gen 140mm fan. Despite positive signs out at Computex this year that had suggested the fan would head to mass production by the tail-end of 2023, that plan has been scuppered by late issue. This means it has to go through a lengthy validation process all over again, and now we’re looking at a Q2 2024 release, if not later again.

Noctua pushed back the fan’s release date on its product roadmap around a month and a half ago, but I’ve reached out to company spokesperson Jakob Dellinger to find out exactly why.

“We won’t be able to kick off mass production at the end of the year as targeted back in June, so we have moved our current ETA from Q1 to Q2 2024,” Dellinger says.

“As usual, this projection is based on…

Another Warhammer game’s license runs out as Warhammer Quest announces its delisting on Steam-

“New sales of Warhammer Quest will end shortly on Steam”, a recent news post for the turn-based dungeon crawler tersely says. “Thanks for all your support for this game over the years.” Released in 2015, Warhammer Quest is an adaptation of Games Workshop’s tabletop game of the same name. A sort of Advanced Advanced Heroquest, it’s a halfway step between board game and RPG that combines a gloomy, dangerous underworld with an only slightly less gloomy overworld where you recuperate in town and story beats play out.

Unfortunately, like so many licensed games, its lifespan is on a timer. Responding to disappointed comments from players on the Steam forum, the official Chilled Mouse account said, “I don’t think it’s appropriate (or probably even allowed under our agreement with them) t…

Doja Cat is extremely mad about Fortnite ‘losers’ who use ‘stupid f—— non-weapons’ instead of having ‘actual aim skills and FPS experience’-

Doja Cat isn’t just an award-winner singer and rapper. She’s also a gamer—specifically, a fan of Fortnite. And like many dedicated fans, she has rather strong feelings about particular aspects of it, which she recently shared on her very lively Twitter feed.

Let’s just dive face-first into it.

“FORTNITE WOULDN’T BE SO FUCKING EMBARRASSING IF THEY MADE LOBBIES WHERE PEOPLE WITH ACTUAL AIM SKILLS AND FPS EXPERIENCE DIDN’T DEAL WITH LOSERS USING FUCKING WATER BENDING AND CHAINS OF HADES.”

Chains of Hades is an epic melee weapon introduced in the ongoing Chapter 5 Season 2 of Fortnite that does multi-stage damage to enemies and can also be used to pull items and other players toward the user. It is, by all reports (very much including the one above) pretty OP. Water …

Riot will let you pay to turn your Valorant guns into Counter-Strike guns-

Valorant’s next cosmetic bundle is looking eerily familiar. The Black Market pack, arriving on April 12, is an unsubtle homage to Counter-Strike conveniently timed with Valve’s recent announcement of Counter-Strike 2.

Interestingly, the Black Market bundle is the exact opposite of Valorant’s typical style of loud, impossible-looking magical skins. The five included skins transform default Valorant guns into a close approximation of their Counter-Strike equivalents. For example:

  • The Vandal becomes an AK-47
  • The Bulldog becomes a FAMAS
  • The Marshal becomes a Scout (these two already looked pretty similar)
  • The Classic becomes a Glock-18
  • The knife becomes a butterfly knife

In case you’re still unsure if the similarities are a coinci…

The Witcher season 3 teaser video reveals June debut date and two-part release schedule-

Yesterday’s tease was true: Netflix has dropped the first official trailer for The Witcher season 3, and even better, announced the release dates. And yes, it’s dates, because the new season is coming in two parts.

Season 3 volume 1 will debut on June 29, according to the trailer, while volume 2 will land a month later, on July 27. Netflix clarified that the first volume will include five episodes while the second will have the last three, which is kind of a weird split—why not four and four?—but as someone who blazed through the first two seasons at maximum speed, I appreciate being given a mandatory break in the middle.

The new season of The Witcher on Netflix will follow Geralt, Yennfer, and Ciri as they attempt to escape “monarchs, mages, and beasts …

Starfield players are finding a use for all their junk and plundered sandwiches- Rube Goldberg machines-

Starfield can be an inventory management nightmare sometimes. Whenever you make a modification to your ship, the game sends all your loose miscellany to your cargo hold, filling it with junk.

Not to mention it’s an open-world RPG—while a lot of the loot really isn’t worth snagging, it’s hard to swat away that reflex to hoover up every loose book, sandwich and pencil holder. Fortunately, it seems like players are finding a use for all this tat—elaborate Rube Goldberg machines.

The first of these comes from sandwich pirate Muaxh03 on YouTube, who combo’d a pile of books into a football, leading to a row of tasty dominoes. Not sure about the food wastage, though—considering the sheer amount of man-hours and quicksaving that must’ve gone …

Square Enix wins stunt of the day by commissioning actual swordsmith to make a giant Final Fantasy 16 weapon, then displaying it in the Tower of London-

Today’s most bonkers news is that Square Enix, which of course is blasting money at the Final Fantasy 16 marketing campaign like there’s no tomorrow, has decided to have the main character’s sword forged in real life, and displayed in the Tower of London. The exhibition, such as it is, will last one month and marks a partnership with the Royal Armouries, which no doubt has received a handsome cheque for its troubles.

The Royal Armouries, to be fair, is a serious and renowned museum that keeps and displays the UK’s national collection of arms, armour and artillery from throughout history. It manages the White Tower at the Tower of London, along with two other national museums. For the next month the Final Fantasy 16 sword, named Invictus, will be on display on the first floor of th…

This game might have the worst name ever, but it’s actually pretty fun-

Data suggests that approximately 18 trillion new games are released on Steam every day. It’s difficult to stand out, so it makes sense that developers have gone absolutely bananas with videogame names lately. Case in point: a game called Bananaguy came out today, and this week also saw the debut of Pong Pong Crows, I Commissioned Some Dogs 2, Dickland: Tower Defense, KILLBUG, and a number of adult games that I’m not comfortable sharing with you, dear reader.

Throwing together random words and calling it a Steam page seems to be a working strategy. Still, I submit that the worst game name to appear on Steam this week, or maybe ever, is Jected – Rivals, a free-to-play early access arcade racer that’s actually pretty fun.

The “jected” part of the name is an unfortunate shorteni…

The Xbox Series S two-slice toaster is here and my body is b-ready-

In news that is likely to bring joy to gaming fans and breakfast enthusiasts the world over, the infamous Xbox Series S toaster of rumour and legend has been spotted for sale at Walmart, causing those of you desperate for more gaming themed accessories in your home to rejoice in the streets. Ok, not really. But look, it toasts an Xbox logo into the bread!

Digging down into the listing, the specs sheet reveals itself to be as impressive as it is comprehensive. Featuring an LED digital countdown timer, 6 levels of toast-browning adjustment, an automatic shut off function, removable crumb tray and an “extra long slot”, this toaster really has it all. However, these pale in comparison to my favourite feature, the “auto centering guide”, presumably a function to allow you to line up th…

Update- With over 211 thousand negative Helldivers 2 Steam reviews in three days, developer Arrowhead seems to be grappling with Sony over its controversial PSN sign-in requirement-

In the time since this story was first published, Helldivers 2 sustained nearly 130 thousand more negative reviews from its disgruntled player base, bringing the total to over 211 thousand and the game’s overall Steam reviews to “Mixed” status. If that wasn’t enough, Sony removed the game from sale in over 177 countries on Steam, seemingly indicating that the company was preparing to discontinue support for Helldivers 2 in countries it does not extend PlayStation Network service to. All this finally came to a head when Sony backed down on its demand that Helldivers 2 players log into a PSN account.

The storm over Helldivers 2 introducing a PlayStation Network sign-in requirement doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, with the game sitting at a little over 8…

Walt Disney rolls over in his grave as I wishlist this M-rated Mickey Mouse FPS-

Just in time for Steamboat Willie’s upcoming induction into public domain is a new indie FPS inspired by ’30s-era Disney animation: Mouse. Developed by Polish studio Fumi Games, you might have caught a first glimpse at Mouse on TikTok, where short clips of early gameplay have earned millions of views since late April.

It’s easy to see why—Mouse’s art and animations are immediately striking in the same ways that Cuphead dazzled us with its meticulous hand-drawn look years ago. Except where Cuphead largely stayed within the bounds of its family-friendly source material, Mouse dives headfirst into hard-boiled noir darkness and ’90s FPS gore. Seeing the Disney vintage look applied to machineguns and exploding headshots feels a little wrong, but also very right.

With its bl…

Worst fear confirmed- You can’t launch Modern Warfare 3 without first launching Modern Warfare 2-

Activision’s bold new vision for unifying the Call of Duty experience is off to a bad start. With the early release of Modern Warfare 3’s campaign, players are discovering that launching Call of Duty HQ, the unified front end for current and future CoD titles, is required to access the new game. That might not be such a big deal if it wasn’t so slow, inelegant, and seemingly pointless. Call of Duty is now a launcher within a launcher, and it sucks.

I’ll explain: Before you can launch Modern Warfare 3, you have to launch Modern Warfare 2 first. Seriously. “Call of Duty HQ” is just the Modern Warfare 2/Warzone client under a new name.

Switching between Modern Warfares 2 and 3 from the HQ is not like switching modes. Once you’re on the main menu, you could jump immediately into…

What year is it- Because the O.G. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is finally getting the arcade brawler tie-in it deserved in the ’90s-

It would have made sense, right? A side scrolling Power Rangers arcade brawler in the style of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time or Streets of Rage, but it never happened in the golden age of the genre. Following the arcade brawler’s new lease on life in recent years, Digital Eclipse is here to finally make it happen in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, with a reveal trailer having come out of today’s Summer Game Fest showcase.

And the new Power Rangers game looks quite good indeed, reminiscent of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge as a real labor of love to do the genre and subject matter justice. The make or break for a game like this is definitely how it feels in the hand, but I can already tell Rita’s Rewind nails the look and sou…

Yes, For Honor is still running, and it’s free to play for a week-

Remember For Honor, Ubisoft’s vikings-vs-knights-vs-samurai multiplayer melee game? It’s been some time since we last gave it a look, but here are a couple of things about it that you might find useful today: One, yes it is still running (and has actually added a pair of additional factions, the Wu Lin and Outlanders), and two, it’s free to play for a week.

For Honor is a hell of a thing. It was revealed in 2015, seemed reasonably good when it launched in 2017, and very quickly tanked. Six months after it launched, we took an in-depth look at where it all went wrong: It wasn’t quite a eulogy but it was awfully close, noting that even though Ubisoft was making an effort to turn things around, the game had taken such a battering by that point that “it might already be too late” to s…

Wordle today- Hint and answer for #848 Sunday, October 15-

If you’re struggling with today’s Wordle you’ll find a helpful clue below, as well as a range of general tips designed to make the most of every guess. And if you’re more than a bit struggling and would just like someone to tell you the answer to the October 15 (848) puzzle, please? I’ve got your back.

A nice, simple, win in three was just what I needed after all the frantic fun I seem to have had the rest of this Wordle week. I may not be able to boast about any fantastic turnarounds or sudden sparks of inspiration with this one, but at least I had one day where my eyebrows didn’t repeatedly crash into each other as I scoured my previous guesses for clues to today’s Wordle answer.
